Such indispensable background spans several chapters and covers necessary mathematics, a brief history of the evolution of ideas and methodological approaches that are relevant to cardiac fluid dynamics and imaging, a qualitative introduction to fluid dynamic stability theory, chapters on physics and fluid dynamics of unsteady blood flows and an intuitive introduction to various kinds of relevant vortical fluid motions.  Part II, Visualization of Intracardiac Blood Flows: Methodologies, Frameworks and Insights, is devoted to pluridisciplinary approaches to the visualization of intracardiac blood flows. It encompasses chapters on 3-D real-time and “live 3-D” echocardiography and Doppler echocardiography, CT tomographic scanning modalities, including multidetector spiral/helical dataset acquisitions, MRI and cardiac MRA, including phase contrast velocity mapping (PCVM), etc. An entire chapter is devoted to the understanding of post processing exploration techniques and the display of tomographic data, including “slice-and-dice” 3-D techniques and cine-MRI. Part II also encompasses an intuitive introduction to CFD as it pertains to intracardiac blood flow simulations, followed—in separate chapters—by conceptually rich treatments of the computational fluid dynamics of ejection and of diastolic filling. An entire chapter is devoted to fluid dynamic epigenetic factors in cardiogenesis and pre- and postnatal cardiac remodeling, and another to clinical and basic science perspectives, and their implications for emerging research frontiers.  Part III contains an Appendix presenting technical aspects of the method of predetermined boundary motion, “PBM,” developed at Duke University by the author and his collaborators.

About the Author

Dr Michael Dickmann is a Senior Lecturer of Human Resource Management at Cranfield University, School of Management. He is the Director of the Cranfield MSc in International Human Resource Management and the Director of CReME, the Centre of Research into the Management of Expatriation. Much of his research focuses on international mobility strategies, structures and processes as well as global careers in multinational organisations. Michael has several years of work experiences for major consultancies as well as in industry and has published in a range of academic journals including the Journal of World Business and the International Journal of HRM. He is co-organising the Career Stream of the European Group of Organisation Studies Conference in Vienna, 2007.

Dr Yehuda Baruch is a Professor of Management at Rouen Business School, France and formerly Professor of Management at UEA, Norwich UK, a Visiting Professor at the University of Texas at Arlington, USA and a visiting Research Fellow at London Business School. He holds a B.Sc. in Electronic Engineering (Ben Gurion, Israel), M.Sc. and D.Sc. in Management and Behavioural Sciences (The Technion, Israel). After being a project manager in the high technology’s industry, he began his career in academia.

Professor Baruch is the Editor of the Journal Career Development International and formerly an Associate Editor of Journal of Managerial Psychology. He serves on the editorial board of several journals, including Journal of Management, and won Best Reviewer prizes. He served as the Chair of the Careers Division of the Academy of Management.

His research interests are Careers, Strategic and Global HRM, and technology impact on management. He has published three books and over 75 papers in refereed journals including: Human Relations, Human Resource Management, Organizational Dynamics, Journal of Vocational Behavior, and Organization Studies.

A "Must Have" book for African scholars

This first English language translation of previously only German language editions for the life of General Paul von Lettow-Vorbeck is a very valuable addition to German military history and African studies. Lettow-Vorbeck was a man who participated in the China Relief expedition, the native uprisings in German Southwest Africa and, of course, the extended campaign in German East Africa where he commanded the Schutztruppe, a mixed force of German and native forces.

The preliminary material for the book is very worth reading-particularly Dr. Dohrenwend's Introduction as it gives a lot of information on the German military system. The illustrations are copied from the original German edition. The two illustrations on the back cover are from a private collection of pictures of East African Askaris (native German soldiers).

The book is printed on acid free paper and is Smythe sewn. A quality presentation and perfect volume for the library of those interested in African studies.

Wonderful story of an amazing history.

Riling Enterprises has done us a great service by reprinting (in such a clean and beautiful format) the General's auto-biography.
While most reprints are difficult to read almost xerox copied, this is a professionally printed and hard cover bound book, with exceptional photos added. And a lovely dust jacket!
The volume is a good read, and the African experiences even had me rooting (almost) for the Germans! His story of 1930s Germany and the rise of Hitler is very interesting, and gives a good perspective on that time.
Thanks for making a great book available again on the market.
