An absolute must for anyone wanting to know

I love this book. Over the years I have purchased and given many copies. It is fun to read and know that our Apostles lived and traveled. I use it all the time. The info is a treasure hunt over many years. I read it and just always get caught up in the author's travels to unravel the questions. Who were these people? Did they really live? Have they affected our lives so many years later. Well worth having if you like history and puzzles and mysteries.

About the Author
Ed Abdo has been actively involved with working on all types of engines for over 40 years. He has received extensive factory training from all of the major engine and motorcycle manufacturers and has worked as a Technician, Service Manager, and Service and Parts Director. Mr. Abdo's experience in training includes over eight years as an Instructor, Chief Instructor, and Curriculum Development Manager. He also spent 10 years with American Honda--including seven as the Assistant Manager of Service Education in Honda's Motorcycle Division, overseeing dealer training for the United States and worldwide training of distributors for products built in the USA. Currently, Mr. Abdo has his own service and repair shop in his hometown of Springville, New York.

Awesome book!

This is a great summer, southern story that had me hooked from the very first page. Now this Savannah, I not only adored but fell in love with. She reminded me of me so much. I really enjoyed reading this book. The southern boy in this book, not only said things that made me gasp, but grip my heart hard.

You got to love your southern boys. Always real and true, this boy Jack, said everything right and more. He is your type of guys who knows what he wants. And when he finds it, he will not let it go. He is reasonable and very responsible, the type every girl wants to marry. He did things all the right way in courting. He was true to everything he said.

Savannah, I loved her! She had a lot to learn but I was glad that she had a good mama, and great boyfriend, Jack to teach her to breath. Savannah would freak out over every little thing. And if I remember correctly, I was the same way. Something went wrong and Bam, I am was in a fit! I loved that while Savannah would go into a fit someone was there to hold her, to help her breath again. But more so, I am glad that Savannah was beginning to learn to breath on her own.

The plot of this book is nothing dramatic, but just wonderfully simple. It didn't need much drama or problems cause the characters were enough for the reader. The characters were a whole another story themselves. If you want a down right, good ol' southern book, read this. I can assure you, it will not only make you feel southern in your mind but in your heart!

Like Breathing

In the novel Breathing by Cheryl Renee Herbsman, a young woman named Savannah - named after the tornado that was passing through and being announced on the radio when her mother was in labor - struggles to find her strength. Troubled by her severe asthma, she is one point of her three-person family, alongside her younger brother Dog (Dogwood) and her single mother, who can't hold job due to Savannah's frequent hospitalizations and emergencies. Her father left when she was three - and the asthma started the day he left. Meanwhile, her mother won't tell her employers about her daughter's condition due to pride.

Savannah has a summer job at the public library, where she works alongside a librarian called Miss Patsy. Her main task is re-shelving books. She also runs storytime sometimes, and some days it's a headache, but some days the kids are attentive.

Meanwhile, Savannah's English teacher, Mrs. Avery, put Savannah's name in for the Program for Promising High School Students, a semester-long college experience for tenth graders in Blue Ridge Mountains. Only 50 kids from both Carolinas can go. She filled out apps even though she knew they couldn't afford it. And goodness, how that hurts. If you've been there, you get it.

Then Savannah meets Jackson. She hopes it's something more than summer love, and it seems to be, as Jackson supports her through hospital stays and other worries. But when Jackson has to leave, Savannah must live for herself, to fight her fragile trappings and find strength.

Herbsman's writing is lovely, and Savannah is a thoughtful and perceptive narrator. All of the characters in Savannah's life - family, friends, mentors - matter to her, and her appreciation for them is endearing. Some of the most beautiful moments and poignant reflections in the book come at the close of the chapters. I can't even lie, this cover drew me in like candy! Ha, Ha. I just finished, read it in about five hours. Easy fun, and interesting read!

The book is written in a thick southern dialect! It flows though, and sometimes I read a sentence twice, but I get the gist of it.

Savannah has asma, and the asma is so bad sometimes she has to go to the hospital and has to stay for days. Because of this, her mom loses jobs, and sometimes neglects her brother. Savannah's mom has strict rules for her, so she should, she's only 15. She meets a boy, 18, named Jackson and for some weird reason instantly they fall for each other. He saves her life carrying her home to get her inhaler, and she saves his, pushing him out of the way before she gets hit by a train while stalking him!

This book starts off slow, but as the story progresses you like it. It's written in present tense so you're reading it like it's happening now. It was kind of interesting, my first book this way. Very neat. Savannah sometimes comes off as older, but in the south girls do grow up faster, because they have to. She's really smart, she wants to write, loves to read and has a great head on her shoulders. Because she's so young, you can see the childlike manner in how she handles her relationship with Jackson, and her family. But, she's fifteen you have to expect her naive views, and her selfishness; you just don't quite understand why Jackson accepts it. I mean the book is a love story in a way, and the character in the end grows up a bit, and she realizes the comfort she has in her family. I love the family relationship, they are well meant for each other. Although I feel her and her brother should have been closer, and her mother more stern on him.

This book is a great read for people who just like to read about another possibility of life, and a kind of good description of a healthy relationship. Since she is fifteen it doesn't seem that way, but I mean like I said, it just is. He's not taking advantage of her, he's super nice,and he basically follows the rules her mom gives. You see how each person in the relationship helps the other accomplish their dreams, and this is the sweet cute relationship, you want to read about.

Goro Hasegawa was the Japanese re-discoverer of Othello

Goro Hasegawa was the Japanese rediscoverer of Othello. Originally, the game was known as Reversi. Two rival Englishmen each claimed to have invented the game late 19th century. Hasegawa modified the rules slightly and his father, a Shakespearean scholar game it the name Othello, because the reversals in the game reminded him of the plot of the play. This book is the only widely distributed manual of Othello strategy. Although it may have some value for the collector, unfortunately most Othello players regard the strategies discussed in the book as being obsolete and even misleading. Readers who are interested in the game should look for resources on the Internet.

Beginners would do well to avoid it...

Othello, devised by Hasegawa-san in the 1970s, is an improved version of the century-old English game, reversi. [What is called reversi on-line is almost always Othello rather than reversi].

This book was written soon after Othello was devised, before anyone understood much about the game. Unfortunately it shows, and beginners would do well to avoid it - at least as a source of ideas on strategy and tactics - because it will lead them down a deceptively appealing blind alley.

Because of its many diagrams, however, it may be of use to those who know enough to recognise where it goes wrong but otherwise I recommend it for historical interest only.

Better resources can be found free on the Web, in the form of strategy guides, illustrative applets and programs that can beat even the best humans. A printed alternative is Othello: Brief & Basic by Ted Landau, which is old but still excellent (as far as it goes).

The Secrets to the Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

This book is superb. There is no better way to describe it. The maps and coloring done by the makers, gives excellent detail and description on how to beat the game. Everything you need to walk through this game successfully is here, and nothing can compare to it. This book is excellent, and I recommend it to anyone who would like to have the best book for The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask.

Save your money

I'm not sure what guide the other reviewers were talking about but it couldn't have been this one. I got Zelda: Majora's Mask for X-Mas and quickly realized I'd need some outside help if I were to beat the game anytime soon. When I got Zelda: Ocarina of Time, I bought the Official Nintendo Strategy Guide and it was superb. But this Bradygames guide for Majora's Mask is cheaper than Nintendo's so I bought it sight unseen from Amazon thinking it'd be good enough. In all fairness I suppose it is 'just good enough'. Here are the problems with it:
1) A _ton_ of typos and outright mis-labeling. Typos are a big deal when you're in a dungeon and the guide says to go to a certain room and about 2 hrs later you figure out that they'd made a mistake. 2) They made the maps in this guide with some sort of 3D program that is supposed to be a copy of the real game. The problem is these fancy 3D maps distort the actual areas. Good luck finding a hidden hole in the game when the guide's map says that the hole is in a completely different place than where it really is. 3) There are 2 Gold Skulltula Houses in the game that each have 30 spiders hidden within. This guide does an absolutely _horrible_ job showing you where they are. It basically just says, 'There are 5 Spiders in this room' and leaves you on your own to find them. 4) If you don't know already, Majora's Mask has a 3 day time period that you keep replaying by going back in time. You keep Masks/Weapons you earn when you go back in time but everything else reverts. For example: After you beat a dungeon the land in that area goes back to normal (poisonous waters are cleaned, snows melt, etc) and that allows you to enter new places in that area to get Heart Pieces or whatever. If you don't get those items before you go back in time you can't get to them unless you go back to the Dungeon that you've already beaten and fight the boss again. Kinda a pain. Now here's the problem: After beating a Dungeon, this guide doesn't tell you what new things you can now get in that area. Very frustrating.
About the only thing this Guide does well is tell you where and how to get the 15 Fairies in each Dungeon. Of course this Guide does list where all the Masks and Heart Pieces are but you can find a similar list on about a hundred websites for free.
I'd recommend that you either find a walkthrough on the Internet (there are a ton of them) or get the Official Nintendo Guide (I flipped through one at a local store after I'd already bought this one and it's alot better but costs about ...).

You could use this guide and get through the game, but I wouldn't pay more than $10.00 to get it. This book is FULL of typos. The enemy description page is loaded with them. The maps are also confusing. If you can figure out your way from the maps, and you can read them and stuff, I suppose it's worth the money. I would highly suggest looking at it before spending any money on it however.

Excellent One-Stop Reference For Non-Professionals

I got a prerelease copy to peruse, and I am quite impressed by the work that Mr. Ozer has put into describing the many different considerations involved in creating quality audio/video presentations.

The book is definitely written for nonprofessionals, which should be clear from the title. This is for people using webcams and smartphone or tablet built-in cameras to present themselves. If you have access to a professional video studio with broadcast-quality video cameras, you are operating in a different world and need different technical advice.

Mr. Ozer uses clearly-labeled chapters to introduce each aspect of videocasting. You can easily jump to a topic of interest or go back to look up something as a refresher. Within each chapter there is a brief backgrounder for people unfamiliar with the topic, some basic definitions to make sure you understand the terminology and concepts used, and then practical tips and advice.

This book is different than some others I have seen, in that it not only covers best practices for on-camera presenters, but also delves into hardware, software, and internet connectivity considerations. Mr. Ozer talks about different types of computing devices, webcams, microphones, and goes into details of setup and operation within several popular web conferencing and video conferencing technologies. But he uses enough representative examples so that you will understand how to compare and select equipment and software that is right for your needs and your budget.

This book is not a get rich for dummies read. It is for the average middle to low income citizen wondering why economical growth is unobtainable.

Why taxes are always so high for them yet so low for the ultra wealthy. Or nonexistent in gains via investments.

It's the keyhole view into a hidden world dating back to feudal times.

How the world really works for the one percent

If you want to understand why the rich keep getting richer, and what the whole Panama Papers scandal was really about, this is your book. It is the clearest, most compelling description of the global wealth game I have ever read. It's also very illuminating about the idea that it's 'smart' for the wealthy not to pay taxes, which we have been hearing so much about lately.
As for 'Adam Wayne,' the reviewer who complains that this isn't the 'get rich quick' guide he expected, anyone who thinks that Harvard University Press publishes that kind of thing is not the brightest bulb in the shed, if you know what I mean.
Read this book for what it says about globalization and the one percent; it also has fascinating insights on the lives of the world's wealthiest people, as seen by their servants. Some of the stories are hilarious, many are shocking; the whole thing will make you a lot smarter about how the world really works.

Stay away.

The author is an associate professor of Sociology at Copenhagen Business School. Reading her book, I thought she might as well be a paid hack working for those wonderful people, wealth managers, and their even more wonderful organization, STEP (Social Transformation and Educational Prosperity). A pity, for the topic is both important and interesting.

oldy but goody

This is a magnetic resonance text that has been out of print for many years. I have always liked the approach used by the authors and find that it still challenges students at the first-year graduate level. This particular copy is from the first printing back in the late 1960's. The binding is in excellent condition. The previous owner(s) have written most of their notes in the book using ink and it is annoying at times, but still very readable. I'm happy with this purchase.
