Wonderful Manga
By Ana Mardoll
Claymore, Vol. 18 / 978-1421539355

I'm a very devoted fan of both the Claymore anime and the manga. I love the crisp black-and-white artwork, and while I realize it's not for everyone I personally think it's a perfect style for graphic novels. I find the action easy to follow, and the faces and body language to be surprisingly emotive. The story is complex and compelling, and I'm all in until the series finally finishes. I own this volume as a Nook Book e-book, and I assume it will shortly be ported to other online stores for sale.

Volume 18 provides the following scenes:

Scene 90: The Ashes of Lautrec, Part 1
Scene 91: The Ashes of Lautrec, Part 2
Scene 92: The Ashes of Lautrec, Part 3
Scene 93: The Ashes of Lautrec, Part 4
Scene 94: The Ashes of Lautrec, Part 5
Scene 95: The Ashes of Lautrec, Part 6

Spoilers ahead!

This volume opens with The Destroyer laying waste to the western lands. The Organization studies the creature from afar and wonders how to retrieve it for use in the mainland war. They can't see a way to collect The Destroyer, but they do take into custody a wounded Raki: he has been pierced by the parasitic rods, but has not succumbed to their control.

Cynthia and Yuma come upon a severely wounded Beth, who has been impaled by a parasitic rod and changed completely into an Awakened Being. Priscilla -- who has left Raki seeking the "scent" that had clung to him so long ago -- attacks the Awakened Beth, and Alicia is forced to abandon her fight with Riful in order to save her sister. Priscilla makes short work of both awakened twins, and then destroys Riful.

Clare senses the presence of Priscilla and confronts her; Clare attempts to awaken her body as she did against Rigaldo in the Northern Campaign, but the attempt unexpectedly fails. Clare can only awaken for a moment before her body snaps back to human form. Deneve deduces that Clare has an emotional block against awakening, because she realizes that to do so would be to waste Jean's sacrifice that was made to bring Clare back to human form the first time. Priscilla wounds Clare, and Deneve and Helen attempt to flee while carrying an unconscious Clare.

Meanwhile, Yuma finds that she can synchronize her aura enough to heal Cynthia back from the brink of death, but she is too weak to effectively fight the parasites of The Destroyer. But Number 8 Dietrich arrives, having gathered the unfocused Abyss Feeders in the area and directed them to attack the parasites of The Destroyer.

Claire finally meets her nemesis
By Lyle Eckert
In this volume, Claire and two of her buddies finally meet her nemesis. There is a little bit of sword play between the two, but not much really happens in this novel between the two. The rest of the story arc is interesting, and I really liked this one, but I thought both 16 and 17 were better. Anyway if you picked this up without reading any of the previous books, you would be completely lost. Also though I watched the anime before reading 1-11 (which were the books the anime was based on) I would have been pretty lost without actually reading 11-18, there is a major change from 11 and the anime.

loved it!
By Mandy
Claymore is a manga about Yoma who pretend to be human in order to kill and eat the humans. The Claymore are the hybrid of the two stronger faster but still human with the ability to slay the Yoma which they do for a price. They travel from village to village slaying Yoma with nothing but the sword on their back using the Yoma abilities but slowly turning into a monster that they hunt. When the time comes a Claymore will send a black card to another claymore to be slain before the Yoma takes over and so they die as a human.

In the 18th installment Raki happened to be in a town not too far from where Clare had her encounter the connected now awakened warriors. With Clare close it draws Pricilla’s attention sending her to leave Raki in the hands of the Organization as she sets out to find her. Together Alicia and Beth attempt to fight off Priscilla both awakened but she makes short work of them heading off after Dauf and Riful. When Clare see’s Piscilla she spins into a rage determined to awaken and slay her for what she’s done but something is blocking her ability. If not for Helena and Deneve she wouldn’t have made it out alive.

I like Clare she’s a sword carrying slayer who isn’t afraid to die charging in risking her life. She's grown a lot in the last several volumes leading up to the battle in the north. After faking her death along with her fellow claymore's she's returned after seven years to battle the Organization. While she may not be the strongest she's determined and unwilling to give up. She's one of those underdog characters you can't help liking. We've seen a little of Raki having grown up into a man who fights yoma but now he's at the hands of the Organization and Priscilla is off to kill Clare

I’ve seen all of the episodes on Netflix a few years ago actually binge watched them over a long weekend. While it’s been a while I don’t think the anime has gone this far in the series. I don’t remember the girls taking on the organization which is where the story has turned. It’s interesting learning that the organization which has been creating claymores for a long time may not be the good guys after all. I love the concept for the Claymore the hybrids created using parts from the monsters that they have been created to fight against the Yoma that they created. The art is great it gives me just enough to create the story in my head as I read each detailed page. This is only my 2nd manga so I don’t have a lot to base on but I’m super addicted to them. They are perfect for when I have some downtime or when I feel like reading back to back. I already know that the ending is close as I’m about halfway done. I’m anxious to see how it’s all going to play out.
